Volvo Penta 's new four-blade folding propeller for sail drives and shafts features a unique patented construction. It is the large size of the blades and their unique elliptical profile (high skew) that contribute to the propeller's high performance. The new four-blade folding propeller has been developed for sailing-boats with engines of up to 120 hp, which now benefit from higher speed on the move thanks to lower drag.

Another important benefit is the simple, dependable design. Tough conical teeth ensure that the propeller blades are always in the correct position. Unlike the conventional, more expensive and complicated propellers with flailing blades, there are no complex mechanisms or other components that can give trouble, so the propeller offers superb reliability.

Less drag
The folding propeller's greatest advantage is its low drag under sail. The new four-blade folding propeller reduces drag by up to 8 times compared with a three-blade fixed propeller, and has 3.5 times less drag than a two-blade fixed propeller.

Higher speed
The four-blade folding propeller offers higher speed compared with a two-blade folding propeller. Compared with a fixed three-blade propeller, it offers more or less the same speed across the full rev range. What's more, the unique blade profile promotes extremely quiet and vibration-free operation.

More Power
The new four-blade folding propeller offers outstanding manoeuvrability. Despite being a folding propeller, reverse thrust is fully comparable with that of a fixed propeller.
